Oregano oil is obtained from the Medditerranean oregano species Origanum vulgare. Carvacrol, a monoterpenic phenol isomeric with thymol, is responsible for the biological activities of oregano. Oregano oil possesses various biological activities including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and hepatoprotective ones. The antimicrobial activity of oregano oil includes activities against pathogenic microorganisms such as Candida albicans, Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, among others.

  • Diarrhea
  • Headaches
  • Muscle/joint aches
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Discomfort upon urination

 Potential drug interactions:

  • Coumadin (Warfarin)
  • Aspirin
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) � naproxen, ibuprofen, diclophenac
  • Clopidogrel (Plavix)

 Relative contraindications:

  • Pregnancy
  • Lactation
  • Chronic anticoagulation therapy
  • Interstitial cystitis
