Methylcobalamin is an active form of vitamin B12. Consumption of high doses of methylcobalamin has been advocated to protect the cognitive function of those suffering chronic fatigue syndrome, stroke, depression, Alzheimer’s disease, and other neurological diseases. The benefits of methylcobalamin are based on its ability to remove brain-damaging levels of the neurotransmitter glutamate.

The recommended dose of methylcobalamin varies from 1000 to 10000 mcg sublingually once a day. Those exceeding the recommended doses must do so under the supervision of their physician due to the increased risk of potential side effects.
