Testimonial: For years I always felt like I had sand in my eyes and that is now gone and I am thrilled. It took about 2 weeks to notice a difference and it’s been such a relief. I sweat a little bit more, but I’ve had no other side effects. I’ve also noticed my energy level has increased. –Jordan W.
Testimonial: I’ve had Sjogren’s Syndrome for years and have been taking Evozac, which has been helpful but I didn’t like the excessive sweat I would get around my neck. I started taking SalivaStim and have been very pleased. My dry eyes and mouth have eased with no side effects. It took a few days to notice a difference, it was a suttle build, but now I can tell a difference when I don’t take it. My afternoon energy has increased as well.-Sheryl M.
SalivaStim is a blend of cultivated Dendrobium nobile stem extract and Smilax medica root extract designed to increase body fluid secretion, to optimize immune responses and to facilitate detoxifying processes.
Dendrobium nobile also known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as Shi Hu is a medicinal orchid which has been used for over two thousand years to treat various disorders, such as chronic pharyngitis, gastrointestinal disease, eye disease, thrombotic occlusive disease, diabetes, chronic fatigue, arthritis, and cancer among others.
The active ingredients from Dendrobium nobile stem include dendrobine, nobilonine, 6-hydroxydendrobine, dendramine, dendroxine, 6-hydroxydendroxine, 4-hydroxydendroxine, dendrine, 3-hydroxy-2-oxydendrobine, and their derivatives.
The ability of Denrobium nobile to stimulate tear and saliva production makes this herb one of the best natural remedies to treat Sjogren’s syndrome, an autoimmune disease affecting exocrine glands and manifesting in the form of dry eyes, dry mouth, dry throat and thirst. The inflammatory process in salivary glands affected by Sjogren’s syndrome changes the expression of aquaporin-5, a water channel protein, which is considered a key pathological event causing mucosal dryness.
Experimental data demonstrate that Denrobium nobile extract not only suppresses an inflammatory process in the salivary glands but also restores the expression and function of aquaporine-5 thus resulting in a stimulation of the saliva production. A clinical study found that after 1 week of oral administration of the Dendrobium extract, salivary secretion was increased by approximately 65%. Dendrobium nobile extract also increases the expression of aquaporin-5 in dry eyes and restores the distribution of aquaporin-5 in lacrimal glands and corneal epithelium.
Another key ingredient of SalivaStim is Smilax medica also known as Sarsaparilla. Smilax medica is a woody vine that grows in Central and South America, the Caribbean, and the West Indies. Smilax root has been used for centuries as an herbal remedy to treat rheumatism, skin ailments, and as a general tonic for physical weakness.
European physicians considered smilax root a tonic, blood purifier, diuretic, and sweat promoter. Similarly to Dendrobium nobile, Smilax medica increases body fluid production and specifically improves perspiration, which benefits patient’s with Sjogren’s syndrome who not only deal with mucosal but also skin dryness.
