The rhubarb root is an important herbal medicine that is traditionally used in Asian and Ayurvedic medicine to treat constipation and various gastrointestinal diseases including infections as well as colon and pancreatic cancer.


It is known to contain bioactive components including anthraquinones, dianthrones, stilbenes, anthocyanins, flavonoids, tannins, organic acids, and chromones. The main bioactive constituents of rhubarb root are anthraquinone derivatives that can inhibit cellular proliferation, induce apoptosis, and prevent metastasis. In addition, rhubarb root extract exhibits nephroprotective, anti-diabetic and lipid-lowering properties.

Dosage Information:

The daily dose of rhubarb root varies between 500 mg to 2000 mg. The dose is adjusted to the desired bowel activity. Rhubarb root is typically taken before bedtime.
